"I thought of writing Kenny. He would dig getting a letter from Nam. I remembered once he was involved with a pen-pal program and got a letter from some kid in Logan, West Virginia. He had looked at me with his wide, bright eyes and smiled like he couldn't believe the great thing that had happened to him."
Response: I thought this was cute how this soldier had a huge grin on his face because a little boy wrote him a letter and he finally had someone to write to.
It didn't matter who wrote the letter, it gave him hope that maybe sometime after the war he could find peace. In his situation peace seemed to be a distant unimaginable dream. After awhile he looses his footing and believes he has no home. That letter from home may save his life.
